 Eating with the season

Fresh-Fruits-Vegetables

With spring beginning, this time of year brings a wide variety of fruits and vegetables into their peak season. Fruits and vegetables have the most flavor when they’re the freshest possible! Every vegetable or fruit has a harvest season and luckily, they aren’t all at the same time, this is why we have plenty of food to consume throughout the whole year. As well every region offers a different product, due to the climate they are in, throughout the year, bringing even greater variety to our produce.

Fruits and vegetables can be purchased from the grocery store or a farmer’s market near you. These can also be grown by YOU at your house! Even if you don’t have a large garden space, it can be easy to grow different herbs or vegetables in a flowerpot. All you need is some soil, plenty of sunlight, and lots of water to make it happen!

A couple times a year we ask for your feedback! Accounting for the perspective and insight of our members is what allows us to be the successful organization that we are! Stay on the lookout in the coming weeks for the bi-annual survey coming to your email inbox. If you have trouble receiving emails from us, at each of our locations we will have a scannable QR code that will take you to the survey! 🧘Move More with us this Month! 🏃

We heard that April is National Move More Month! We want our people to keep moving just like we are here at MTS! Per the American Heart Association (AHA), only 1 in 5 adults and teens get enough exercise weekly to maintain good health. The AHA recommends per week at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, or anything that gets your heart pumping fast!

Try these six tips to get yourself moving this April!

1. Plan a hike with a friend!

2. Get out to the garden and plant flowers!

3. Ride your bike rather than driving short distances!

4. Join in on a group exercise class!

5. After a meal, go for a short walk!

6. Stretch your muscles in the morning after you wake up!

Exercise of the Month!

Low Row

If you're looking for a way to spice up your routine give the Low Row a try! This exercise helps to improve posture and increase strength and stability for the back, targeting the latissimus dorsi (mid- back muscles), rhomboids (the muscles between the shoulder blades, and the trapezius (muscle that helps to "shrug" the shoulders). This exercise can be done different ways using different types of equipment. Below you'll see how Laura is demonstrating this for us on two different pieces of equipment. After setting up the equipment properly including selecting an appropriate weight or load, grab the handle of the cable, and using the arms to pull the cable straight in making sure to point the elbows straight back. You should feel the shoulder blades pinch together as you pull the cable back.

In this first demonstration she is working bilaterally (both of her shoulders) using a seated low row machine.

For this second demonstration, she is working unilaterally (one shoulder at a time) using a cable machine.

If you have questions about this exercise or maybe interested in updating your exercise routine, ask to speak to one of our awesome personal trainers that we have on staff!

We are here to help you be your best self!
