oppurtunity to Bring a Friend
January 12th-24th
Make sure you don't forget about the opportunity to bring your friends to MTS for FREE!
From January 12th through the 24th YOU as a member will be able to bring ONE guest with you each day for the duration of the two weeks. Your friend can come as many times as they like during that time but only once per day and they must be accompanied by a current member at all times. Both classes and gym passes will be available to their use. All guests accompanied by a member must stop by the wellness desk and fill out the waiver and health history form prior to starting exercise.
If you and your guest would like to attend a class together, we do ask that you provide us with adequate notice so that we can make sure there is appropriate availability in the class. Classes fill up quick! We do ask that a guest only attend one class type per week during this time, allowing all guests to try out the various classes that MTS offers. (Example: You may only attend strength and balance once per week during this opportunity with a guest.)

Now, there is a reward available for our current members! If a guest decides that after trying our facilities that they would like join as a member, and they join BEFORE February 1st, the member who referred them will receive the month of February for free! Encourage your friends to sign up so that you can get a free month of membership! Only the month of February will be free regardless of how many of your friends join before February 1st. If your friend joins as a member on or after February 1st the reward will not be available but at least you get to hang out with your buddy at the gym!

Healthy Habits
Winter Wellness

During the winter it is common to fall into low moods and bad habits. This is due to many factors; Holidays, poor weather, and bouts of sickness that come with cold weather. Holidays can be difficult for a myriad of reasons for people causing mental health decline. Just like when the weather is poor it can bring your mood down. Sunshine and good weather days are fantastic for our mental health! Unfortunately, winter goes hand in hand with flu and cold season. Bouts of sickness, especially when prolonged, also contribute to mental health declines. When it comes to mental health declines and low moods, we often start to neglect other wellness factors in our lives. It is not fool proof but if we try to stay intentional about at least one or two factors we can be just a little bit healthier through the wintertime.
4 tips to navigating your wellness this winter!
- Eating Well
During the winter it is difficult to get access to a lot of the fresh fruits and vegetables that we enjoy during the spring, summer, and fall. Try substituting with canned or frozen fruits and vegetables. These methods of food storage allow our food to hold onto the nutrients even though they aren’t fresh.
- Stay Active
When it’s cold outside we often don’t want to leave the house, but it is still important to stay active. Try to find indoor activities to stay moving. Home exercise videos can be helpful to exercise from the comfort of your living room. But also, indoor gyms and swimming pools can also be a good option. Still allowing you to stay out of the cold but to get out of the house.
- Get plenty of vitamin D
Vitamin D has been thought to be beneficial to boosting mood regulation as well as other overall health benefits. Our bodies can make vitamin D from the sun, spending 8-10 minutes per day in the sun during mid-day is thought to give you enough vitamin D daily. But we also get vitamin D from different foods like egg yolks, beef, salmon, and tuna. Supplements also exist; make sure you are not taking more than the recommended daily amount of about 700 IU.
- Fight off the sickness before it starts!
Keep the sickness away by practicing proper handwashing and covering your cough. These are minor acts that can really make a big difference for yourself and those around you to prevent the spread of germs. As always, talk with your doctor about how to best protect yourself. Get all vaccines recommended by your physicians. But if you find yourself ill, and can avoid it, try to stay home and away from others.
We hope everyone has an excellent start to their New Year and can continue to stay happy and healthy!
