🌻SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER🌻
Thank you for coming to our event!
A couple of weeks ago we had our Member Appreciation Event: Coffee & Conversation, and it was a HUGE hit! We welcomed Kate Roundtree from Ochsner to our Townhouse location where she gave us some awesome nutrition tips related to weight loss. The conversations were fun, light-hearted, and extremely informative! During our Q & A session, Kate was able to answer all of those real-life questions with realistic answers to help our members reach their goals! Plus, we had some fresh CC's Coffee to sip on.
If you missed this great event, keep an eye out here in our newsletter and on social media for upcoming sessions! Follow us on Instagram and Facebook! You won't want to miss it next time!

Back to school snacks

When September comes around every year, that means it is back-to-school time! With the kids going back to school this can affect the whole family. Whether you’re the parent or grandparent to a school-aged child, day-to-day life can start to look a little different as they transition from summer fun to focusing inside the classroom. Not to even mention the time demanding after-school activities that start to follow. With that, fitting in a nutritious and balanced snack for you or the kids can seem like a daunting or nearly impossible task. Without nutrient dense food throughout the day, you can start to feel more tired and irritable, and experience bouts of persistent brain fog. And to maintain a busy school schedule it's important to stay at the top of your game!
We have curated a list of 4 suggestions and tips about ways to make it feel less intimidating to get all the nutrition! But first, we need to break down what a balanced or well-rounded snack looks like. The ideal snack is rich in fiber, protein, and healthy fats while also minimizing salt, sugar, and artificial ingredients. These snacks should offer essential nutrients and keep you full for 3-4 hours afterwards, making sure the brain is ready to function to the highest level. Within our food, the components that keep us full are the protein, fiber, and as few possible calories from sugar. We need sugar in our foods, but that shouldn't be where the majority of your calories come from. Snacks can be made at home but there are also certain pre-made options that are worthwhile. Some appetizing options include hardboiled eggs, hummus and vegetables, cheese and crackers, granola bars, yogurt with fruit, nuts, and fresh fruits like bananas, apples, or berries.
4 tips for healthy snacking:
- Keep healthy options prepared. Often when the healthy option is easy and available you’re more likely to eat it over the less healthy alternative.
- Read nutrition labels. When purchasing pre-packed snacks such as snack bars, make sure to look at the amount of protein and sugar in each bar. Look for options with at least 5 grams of protein and an equal or lesser amount of sugar.
- Involve the whole family in snack planning. Ask for input from all family members about what snacks they would like to have readily available. This can be a great opportunity for new snack ideas.
- Keep portion size appropriate. Ideally a snack should be around 150-250 calories.
No matter how busy life gets, you are always worthy of delicious and nutrient dense foods or snacks that fuel your body. Start your school year off right with a happy, full stomach and a clear mind!
🤜Trainer of the month🤛
Brian Broussard

Get to know Brian!
Brian is one of our Therapy and Wellness Coaches! He primarily serves at our Sports Performance location offering personal training to our young athletes. Our interview with Brian was nothing short of a good time! We asked him about his style of coaching, asked him to share some personal favorites, and he even left us with a bit of advice. He reported that his favorite exercises to coach other on are either a heavy dumbbell squat or a rear elevated split squat. Or in his words, "Exercises that make you go: BOOM!". Talking about his coaching style he said he motivates his clients by speaking their language, connecting with them using words that matter, and continuing to be positive. He let us know that if he could only eat one food for the rest of his life it would be chicken, anyway it comes, except fried! Saying, "...and not because I don't like fried but because fried doesn't align with my goals." We asked him what a dream vacation destination was for him, and he told us he wasn't picky as long as he was on a beach resort with a full gym to use! Lastly, we asked him what he would say to someone that feels intimidated by on-on-one training he said, "One-on-one is an opportunity to have a coach focus on YOU alone and cater to your health and wellness needs. Attention of a coach to your needs; that seems like a win to me!"
He left us with one last bit of wisdom saying, "Strength Matters; Most aches and pains come from lack of strength and/or mobility. Start training and keep training; Train for Movement; Train for life!"
If you see Brian around, make sure to tell him Hi! 💪
🤸♀️Movement of the Month🤸♀️
stretches for the POsterior chain
What is the posterior chain?
The posterior chain is a series of connected muscles that run along the backside of the human body. These muscles run from the base of the skull, all the way down the back and the backside of the legs, and end at the heels of the feet. Muscles like the hamstrings, glutes, rhomboids, lats (latissimus dorsi), and so many more are included in the chain.
Why is it important to stretch these muscles?
This group of muscles helps us to jump, stand up from a chair, and climb stairs, just to name a few. This group is also responsible for posture as they support the spine. We use these muscles a lot and so therefore we must take care of them by stretching. When these muscles get tight from not stretching enough, it can start to cause pain throughout the back, neck, knees, and even the feet!
What are some good stretches to do?
There are many great stretches you can do for this group of muscles. Below, we put together a list of four stretches to help get you started.
Piriformis Stretch

This stretch can be done seated in a chair, simply crossing one ankle over the opposite knee. You'll feel this stretch through the side of the hip and in the buttocks.
Hamstring Stretch

The hamstring stretch can be done seated or standing. Simply extending one or both legs, with straight knees, and reaching the hands towards the toes until you start to feel that stretch along the backside of the leg.
Calf Stretch

The calf stretch is one that can be done, actually, anywhere. Simply standing close to a wall and flexing one foot to where the heel is on the floor and the toes are on the wall. Once in that position keeping the leg straight you can begin to lean your chest in towards the wall, supporting with your hands on the wall. You will feel this stretch through the backside of the lower leg.
Downward Dog

The downward dog stretch is excellent for stretching the shoulders and muscles that run down the back. To get into this stretch stand arms-length from a wall placing hands on the wall. Begin to hinge through the hips, drawing the chest forward between the arms.
If you have questions about any of these movements or maybe are interested in updating your exercise routine, ask to speak to one of our awesome personal trainers that we have on staff!
